fan port won’t let computer start?
My HP desktop came with a 9500 GS graphics card. Later I replaced that with a 9800 GT for a little more performance. It ran a little hot, so I ordered a Zalman heat sink for my card. Apparently the heatsink requires a 3 pin connector instead of the tiny 4 pin on the graphics board. I only have two 3 pins occupied on my motherboard; the cpu fan and the exhaust fan. Removing the exhaust fan causes the computer to beep twice and not begin the start up process, but it still powers up. I replaced the exhaust fan connector back on the motherboard, and now the computer does not start up. Although i’m in the early stages of this, I would really like some help and tips if I’m doing something wrong. I realize this computer isn’t necessarily made for optimal changes, but I’m a little bit clueless at this point.
Hullo,
i would start with buying a bigger power supply that way you can buy extension 3 pin plugs to use for either your gfx card or another hard-drive etc. That would be my 1st option if i needed more power for other thing’s, i have had the same problem on my old machine so i built a new 1 with most of the old parts (hard-drives,light up fans, card reader etc) but this time i built it to play today’s games and it work’s a treat at 1/2 the cost of a total new machine. Hope this helps.
